John ROSS NELSON (father, see Paternal Ancestry) was born on 7 May 1916, in Muirbank House, Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, to Thomas Nelson and Margaret Blair Ross, as shown in family tree chart 155. He was baptised in 1916, in Hood Memorial Church, Bridgeton, Glasgow. He was educated at Rutherglen Academy, Rutherglen, Lanarkshire. He was a Turbine Operator with Templeton's Carpet Factory and worked for them for over 25 years.

John enlisted for the Royal Navy early in 1940 and became an Engineer Mechanic on Minesweepers. By October 1944 [having been drafted to HMS Arthur for training] he was promoted to Petty Officer in Minesweepers and at one time was with the Russian Convoy fleet in the North Atlantic.  John was an excellent amateur gardener, like his father and brother.   He won many flower shows with his displays of chrysanthemums.   He was also a very active member of the British Legion.

John died (Pneumonia and Heart Failure) on 11 June 1981, aged 65 years, in Mearnskirk Gen. Hosp. Glasgow.  He was living at that time in 16 Kingsbridge Drive, Kings Park, Glasgow . He was cremated in June 1981 in Lynn Park Crematorium, Glasgow.

JEANNIE [JEAN] CRUICKSHANKS DELANEY (mother, see Maternal Ancestry) was born on 14 February 1918, in 15 Gallowflat Street, Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, to Cornelius Maxwell Delaney and Annie Mcarthur Cruickshank, as shown in family tree chart 156. She was baptised in 1918, in Greenhill United Free Church, Rutherglen. She was educated at Rutherglen Academy, Rutherglen, Lanarkshire. She started her working career as a typist/teleprinter operator with Stuarts & Lloyds of Glasgow and ultimately she was working as a Group Leader in the Secretarial Department of the  Scottish Elect. Board. Jean died (COPD and fracture of femur) on 2 October 2007, aged 89, in at 2.20 pm James Cook Hospital, Middlesborough. She was cremated on 16 October 2007 in Middlesborough Crematorium, Middlesborough, Cleveland and her ashes scattered at Daldowie Crematorium, Uddingston, Glasgow, where her daughter and mother were cremated and their ashes scattered.  Following her divorce, Jean lived in Kings Park for a few years, then moved to Middlesborough, Cleveland, England where she lived for many years prior to her death.
